Day 3 of 21 "Sunday in Dublin"
After the midnight Kentucky Derby race, we finally slept and slept and slept. When I finally woke up and looked at the time, I said "It's 2:00 in the afternoon." No reaction from Patrick. He didn't believe me at first. Yep, lost half a day, but apparently we needed the sleep.
We walked one block to The Stag restaurant. Tons of history there. After finding a seat in one of the back rooms, we learned from a small tourist group (that just happened to pass through while we were there) that Michael Collins, the founder of the Irish Republic, ate in this same room. If you want to go down that rabbit hole, his story is one of absolute bravery. Patrick ordered his first fish and chips, and I had a chicken Caesar salad. Beverages...ginger ale. It may be 3pm now, but it's too early to drink. Reading the menu we learned about the "Comedy Crunch" at 8pm tonight right there at the Stag, so we made plans to attend.
For dinner, we went to The Voyager for another traditional meal, Irish Bacon and Cabbage. Then it was time for the comedy show. While waiting for the show to begin we met one of the comedians, a Jim Carey look-a-like, Bill Conway from Philadelphia asked us about ourselves, so we assumed he'd make plenty of American jokes pointed our way, but he didn't (phew!). There were four comedians in all, and it was the one wearing the Green Bay Packers hat that surprised us the most. He was Irish and didn't explain the hat, so that connection will remain a mystery.
Martha gave us a ten pound note to spend in Ireland. We dropped it in the donation bucket on our way out. THANK YOU Martha for all the laughs! It was a great show. :)
